Join the PA SolarCorps!

The PA SolarCorps is a volunteer initiative created by the Pennsylvania Solar Center to help map the solar potential of properties in our GET Solar Communities Program.

GET Solar Communities empowers community leaders to encourage non-residential property owners, such as businesses, nonprofits, schools, faith communities, etc. to explore solar through our GET Solar program, which provides interested entities with technical support and trusted guidance to help each organization go solar.

SolarCorps volunteers fulfill a critical role by helping to identify as many entities as possible that have good solar potential in the participating communities. That list is then provided to community leaders to use in their outreach efforts to encourage participation in GET Solar.

How does it work and what is my commitment as a PA SolarCorp volunteer?

We hold two-hour virtual mapping sessions for each community during which each SolarCorp volunteer is assigned a section of the target community to map. Volunteers calculate the solar potential of the properties in their assigned section using a simple and free online software called PV Watts. A short training document and video are provided to volunteers in advance and reviewed at the beginning of each session. Volunteers enter the information for each building into a spreadsheet that the GET Solar team will use to estimate the cost of the system and the potential electricity savings for the organization.

These solar maps are a powerful tool for community leaders as they reach out to invite organizations into the GET Solar program. Providing this information to organizations upfront offers a tangible and compelling view of their solar potential. The GET Solar team assists interested organizations to procure competitive solar proposals and develop a financing strategy through an unbiased process.

Once you sign up for the SolarCorps, you will receive information about every mapping session, and you can decide to participate whenever your schedule allows. By being a part of the PA SolarCorps, you can help expedite solar adoption across the entire commonwealth!
