Join the PA SolarCorps!
PA SolarCorps is a volunteer initiative created by the Pennsylvania Solar Center to help identify buildings with strong potential for solar energy. Volunteers use mapping tools to evaluate properties and provide valuable data that supports solar planning and outreach efforts. To date, our dedicated volunteers have mapped thousands of buildings across Pennsylvania.
How does it work and what is my commitment as a PA SolarCorp volunteer?
We hold two-hour virtual mapping sessions for each community during which participating SolarCorps volunteers are assigned sections of the target community to map. Volunteers calculate the solar potential of the properties in their assigned section using a simple and free online software called PV Watts. A short training document and video are provided to volunteers in advance and reviewed at the beginning of each session. Volunteers enter the information for each building into a spreadsheet that the GET Solar team will use to estimate the cost of the system and the potential electricity savings for the organization.
These solar maps provide organizations with a clear, data-informed view of their property’s solar potential. By making this information available upfront, organizations can better understand their opportunities and make more informed decisions about exploring solar. The GET Solar team assists organizations through a feasibility study, a competitive solar proposal, an unbiased bid process, and a financing strategy to help move a project to installation.
Once you sign up for the SolarCorps, you will receive information about every mapping session, and you can decide to participate whenever your schedule allows. By becoming PA SolarCorps volunteer, you can help expedite solar adoption across the entire commonwealth!
