There’s a wide array of career pathways that lead to Pennsylvania’s solar industry, and a growing number of workforce development programs to keep pace with the fastest growing sector of Pennsylvania’s sustainable energy economy.  Whether it’s in project development and installation, manufacturing, wholesale trade and distribution, sales and administration, or operations and maintenance, solar workforce development programs are aiming to attract the diverse and passionate talent needed to meet the demand of solar opportunities. In addition, the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) offers some benefits that require compliance with the apprenticeship provisions.

Join the Pennsylvania Solar Center and workforce experts to learn about the different programs and pathways that are supporting the need for a strong Pennsylvania solar workforce. We’ll be joined by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers to talk about their apprenticeship programs and world-class training facilities. We’ll also be joined by the Pennsylvania College of Technology’s Clean Energy Center to discuss the many training programs and certifications offered for residential, commercial, or other industry segments. We’ll also hear from other institutions offering much needed workforce development programs, as more sustainable energy opportunities have been unlocked by the transformative impacts of the Inflation Reduction Act.

Speakers:

  • Rob Franklin, Training Director, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers
  • Holly Merriman, Project Manager, Clean Energy, Pittsburgh Gateways Corporation
  • Sarah Klinetob-Lowe, Solar Program Manager, Pennsylvania College of Technology’s Clean Energy Center
  • Reggie Overton, Account Executive, Workforce Development, Community College of Allegheny County
  • More speakers to be announced soon!

Did you know that clean energy jobs exist in all 67 of Pennsylvania’s counties? According to an analysis of Pennsylvania’s clean energy jobs landscape, there are currently over 6,300 solar jobs in Pennsylvania, and that number is going to continue to grow as investments in renewables continues to be fastest growing sector of the clean energy economy. According to the National Solar Jobs Census 2022 report, Pennsylvania ranks 6th in the nation for number of solar manufacturing jobs which is projected to grow due to the Inflation Reduction Act’s transformative impact on the solar industry. And if the PA legislature increases our renewable energy goals, the Commonwealth could employ tens of thousands of Pennsylvanians in the solar field.
