Watts and Learn webinar: How energy storage and solar energy can create resilient communities

Imagine a future where the power stays on, no matter the storm. That was the vision Smart Electric Power Alliance (SEPA) and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection had for the Safeguarding Pennsylvania: Resilient Microgrids in Our Communities report that identifies priority sites and customers for microgrid deployment across the state, ensuring communities remain connected even in the face of extreme events.

Mac Keller, Manager of Resiliency at SEPA, and Sarah Pinter, Energy Program Specialist at DEP, will join us for our April Watts & Learn webinar to discuss this report and to help stakeholders gain insights into how microgrids can help critical infrastructure remain operational during outages. We will also review how to leverage certain tools to guide decision-making and to accelerate resilience investments in our own communities or regions.

In addition, Cat Pantelas, Sr. Program Manager at the PA Solar Center, will join us to guide participants through a case study that modeled a microgrid at a health center as part of the PA Solar Center’s GET Solar program. (GET Solar provides entities with full-spectrum solar consulting services and can model solar and storage applications for non-residential entities.) In addition, the PA Solar Center’s Amelia Eggan will share data on the solar potential for critical infrastructure in southwest and southeast Pennsylvania. This data was collected by the PA SolarCorps, the PA Solar Center’s volunteer mapping program. PA SolarCorps – with the help of more than 100 volunteers – has mapped the solar potential of thousands of properties, with a focus on under-resourced communities and their critical infrastructure.
